Well, another summer came and went and now we’re into
the cooler temps again.
I hope those of you who are so inclined had a wonderful
season of plein air.
I was fortunate enough to spend several weeks plein air
painting in Halifax, NS, Prince Edward Island, and NFLD
during the summer. I also spent time closer to home (although still about seven hours away) in Waterton Lakes,
Alberta.
Since I am “a fair weather fan” of plein air, I mostly avoid it
in the winter, preferring still life set-ups and portraits in my
warm, cozy studio with coffee or tea near at hand.
Although I’ve painted in wind, rain, hail and numerous other cold and miserable situations in summer, in the winter I
tend to hibernate. To all of you who are tougher than I am,
I applaud your tenacity in capturing the beautiful winter
scenes that we Canadians enjoy.

I am going to take the advice of our columnist Leah
Markham and do some organizing. She has some great
suggestions for decluttering so you can work with a clear
mind.
Why wait for ‘spring cleaning’ when now is a good time to
start?

We were hoping to publish a still life demo by American
artist Quang Ho this issue, but it will be printed in the next
issue instead. It is definitely worth waiting for.
